The Basque Country has nowadays four technology park in its Basque Country Technology Park Network . The parks are a statement to the region's determination to create infrastructure strategies which facilitate new business initiatives. They are endowed with state of the art infrastructures and are designed to promote research and development and its transfer to business.
The technology parks are located close to the three Basque capitals and each acts as a magnet for the firms and researchers within their sphere of influence.
The Technology Park of Bizkaia close to Bilbao and houses 202 firms involved mostly in electronics and telecommunications, the environment , aeronautics and biotechnology.
The Technology Park of Alava, near Vitoria and stands out for its focus on aeronautics and energy, and has 104 firms.
The companies located in San Sebastian's Miramón Technology Park are active in environmental technologies, telematics, advanced materials and medical technology, among other areas, and has 58 firms.
A new high added-value infrastructure, the Garaia Innovation Pole, is to join the Basque technology park network in January 2006.
Land for industry
SPRILUR is an entity run by SPRI whose main purpose is to facilitate access by businesses to public land for industrial use.
Its mission includes insuring that there is sufficient land prepared with the infrastructures needed for industrial use for the purpose of decreasing commercial speculation and fomenting business activity.
